Meet Virginia
( Pronounced Bir-he-nia )
My life journey spans three decades working in global health, dedicating myself to HIV care around the world. That work was meaningful and fulfilled my need to make a contribution.
When I retired, I knew I wanted to bring this global inspiration to an art form that would add light and creativity to my life and community. Over ten years ago, I started creating jewelry, primarily using beads. Then, amidst the challenges of the Covid era, I had the privilege of connecting with two remarkable mentors who introduced me to the intricacies of jewelry metalwork, marking a significant chapter in my creative journey.
Artistry
I now work in sterling silver, gold filled, copper, and aluminum metals. I find pleasure in cutting shapes, then stamping and using the Rolling Mill Textured Patterns tool to create unique designs onto my metal pieces. Additionally, I work with a variety of wires, including sterling silver, fine silver, copper, gold filled, as well as craft wire. I like to adorn my metal pieces with artful beads, gems, and rivets that reflect the cultural richness of the many countries I had the opportunity to experience.
Today, my work has been recognized and featured at Domicile Gallery in Madison Park, Seattle.
